Events 2010

We like to give our guests at Goltho Gardens more than just the opportunity to meander around our beautiful garden, eat Lesley's delicious homemade food and buy plants that Debbie has been lovingly nurturing all year.  We've designed our 2010 events so that you'll find something new at Goltho Gardens every time you visit.  We'll be updating our calendar with even more events as the months go on.

February 2010

Wednesday 3 February -  Re-opening

After being stuck indoors all winter what could be better than to get out into the fresh air!  Our colourful dogwoods, hellebores, snowdrops and early daffodils look gorgeous at this time of year and you can also see the first signs of life beginning in the rest of the garden.  After some wonderfully bracing fresh Lincolnshire air what better idea than to warm up in our cosy tea shop?  Lesley will be cooking her famous steaming bowls of homemade soup and bacon sandwiches using locally-produced meat.  And for those of you who have been emailing us longingly all winter about her delicious oat and raisin biscuits, never fear - she'll be baking too!  Don't forget your wellies!

Thursday 18 and Friday 19 February :  Charity Open Days in aid of National Garden Scheme

We've been proud to support the good work of the National Garden Scheme (NGS) for over five years - ever since we first opened out gardens to the public.  Every year NGS gardens across England and Wales welcome over half a million visitors and few people realise that through this, the NGS raises £2 million for nursing, caring and gardening charities.   Visit www.ngs.org.uk to find out more about the work of the NGS.  This year in case of bad weather we'll be donating all entrance money to the NGS for two days so please come along and support a great cause.

March 2010

Sunday 14 March :  Mothers Day

All mothers know that this is an important day where we should be pampered and cosseted, so why not visit Goltho Gardens where you can wander and wonder at the beauty of the spring daffodils and tulips, and watch as the garden springs into life.  Afterwards (or before) you can have lunch or some afternoon tea and homemade cakes in our friendly cosy teashop.  And to make the day complete all mothers get a small gift to take home.

June 2010

Thursday 24 June 2010:  An Evening of Midsummer Magic in aid of Help for Hero's Charity

Despite the not so good weather last year's special evening reception was wonderful and many people have asked for the experience to be repeated this year.  Wandering through the wildflower meadow champagne in hand, luxuriating in the heady scents of the rose garden and partaking of Lesley's scrumptious canapés while gentle music tinkles in the background.  A once a year chance to see the garden on a balmy summers evening and at the same time giving support to this worthy charity.

Tickets to be purchased in advance £9.95 per head.

July 2010

Wednesday 7 - Sunday 11 July :  Edible Flowers

Did you know that some flowers petals are edible?  In Victorian times, flowers were enjoyed for their culinary and medicinal uses as well as for their scent and beauty.  Lesley has been asked to celebrate this unusual culinary tradition once again this week with cooking demos and a very special menu in our tea shop.  Take a selection of our recipes home and amaze your family and friends by cooking with popular garden flowers yourself.  Cooking demos will take place at 2pm every day and will be included in our normal garden entry tickets.  Scrumptious!

September 2010

Friday 17 September 2010:  Charity Open Day in aid of Lincolnshire Old Churches Trust

Lincolnshire Old Churches Trust was founded to help churches and chapels to be preserved and kept open for worship.  Throughout Lincolnshire there are wonderful places of worship which are part of our heritage and with your help they can be preserved.  The role of Lincolnshire Old Churches Trust is to raise the much needed funds which are needed and distribute it in the form of grants.  Funds are distributed on a basis of need, irrespective of denomination.  We'll be donating 100% of ticket sales to this good cause.  To find out more about the work of Lincolnshire Old Churches Trust, visit www.lincolnshireoldchurchestrust.org.uk.

Sunday 26 September : Michaelmas Day

Traditionally celebrated on 29th September Michaelmas, or the feast of the Archangel St Michael, is associated with the beginning of autumn and the shortening of the days.  Here at Goltho Gardens we thought we would celebrate it with a special accompanied viewing of our Michaelmas daisies of which we have over 10 different varieties all of which create a riot of colour at this time of the year.  Debbie will be here to show them all to you at 11am and 2pm, and all included in our normal entry price, its too good to miss.
